Show of Hands for Manchester Children's Hospital

Liquid have just completed an innovative and entertaining installation in the waiting area in the brand new Children's Hospital in Manchester

The interactive wall gives children the chance to leave an impression by touching heat-sensitive blocks, thumping memory foam bricks, pressing huge switches and triggering random light sequences controlled using an arduino board. Impressions left by the various methods all gradually fade away at different rates, producing a truly organic art form that changes over time throughout the day.

We personalised the artwork for some young friends of the hospital by printing their handprints onto the surrounding wall, helping to lead new users up to the exhibit.

Liquid's brief was to provide something engaging and fun, whilst also being low maintenance, and the heat sensitive material used is ChroMyx provided by Chameleon International in the US, and Show of Hands is thought to be the first installation of its kind using that material in the UK.
